DECO (Dynamic Encapsulator of C++ Objects)

converts Dynamic C++ code (DC++) to C++ (this was my main thesis project)

This includes the source for SHACC, the CParse library, and genc2a (for converting C/C++ structure/class declarations to #define's that can be included in assembly files). It should be noted that this is somewhat of a pre-release, since I haven't had time (and probably won't for a while) to clean up all the documentation or test the configuration/build process on a variety of systems, but it should build okay on recent RedHat Linux boxes.

SHACC (Shaggy's Homebrew Alternative Compiler Compiler)

This is a replacement for YACC which supports most of the YACC syntax but isn't limited to one token of lookahead. In fact, it can handle grammars which are entirely ambiguous until the very end, and will keep track of all paths which might be valid, reducing them (and executing the actions) as ambiguities are resolved. This project was a side-effect of writing my thesis, since I needed a cleaner parser for C++, and quite frankly, YACC couldn't cut it, not without a lot of complicated hacks. As with DECO, this is somewhat of a pre-release.

SOLO: Shag/Os LOader

command or menu driven (through shell scripts) boot loader for ShagOS, Linux, Plan9, Brazil, Inferno, and other PC OS's. Provides ramdisk support, unzip (for compressed kernels, ramdisk images, etc), simple kernel debugging, console I/O, a file system, and BIOS call ability, and much more for protected-mode 32-bit kernels and other standalone programs. The full source code version builds with GCC under Linux (most recently tested with GCC 2.91.66), and can probably be easily ported to other systems. The disk images can be used to try out SOLO on any system (Linux/DOS/Windows) that has the ability to write a raw disk image to a floppy disk. Note that the demo disk images are of a two-year old version of SOLO. At some point in the future, these will be updated with new demo disks, but for now you'll need to build SOLO from the source code to see the new version.

Shag/OS Classic 0.37

a portable object-oriented micro-kernel operating system, for PC's and MicroVAXes (although it hasn't been built for a MicroVAX in 4 years, so it might not build properly anymore) Written in C. (don't confuse Shag/OS Classic with the current Shag/OS... this is the old, original version in C, and the new one is a complete redesign and rewrite.) See the ShagOS Page for more information.

To build Shag/OS, SOLO 0.96.2 or newer sources are also required. The demo disk has binary versions of both SOLO 0.97 and Shag/OS 0.37 for PC's, and only requires the ability to write a raw disk image to a floppy disk.

ACE: Atari Computer Emulator (800/XL/XE)

an emulator for the old 8-bit machine that can run in X-Windows, SVGA, or text-only. (for Unix, but portable) Don't be scared by the version number-- To quote a review of it: "With a version number that low, one would expect it to be barely working, but it's actually got most of the 8-bit features covered already."

Future Releases (hopefully, maybe, someday)

• Shag/OS 1.0
  an object-oriented micro-kernel operating system, currently for PC's, but designed to be portable. (written in C++, still under construction, and dependent on DECO)
• Shag/OS 0.50.3
  this (or some slightly larger number) is going to be a pre-release of the current working version of Shag/OS, and new versions will be put up as they become available. See the ShagOS Page for more information.
• CParse (C/C++ Parser)
  this is a collection of C++ classes that can be used to do C and C++ lexical analysis and parsing. Simple symbol table and C++ interpreter classes are also provided. (this is now included in DECO)
• Utilities/Scripts
  a collection of little utilities and scripts which I find to be useful (for Unix/Linux at least), and which I hope may be of use to others. (or at least the subject of their amusement, in some cases :)
• fconfig (File Configure)
  sets up build environments from multiple source trees containing code for multiple architectures (can currently be obtained in a not-very-well-documented form from within the DECO, SHACC, or SOLO packages) Note that this might get turned into a separate package in the future, possibly called SOCK (ShagOs Configuration Kludge)
