CSH Blog Network

Many of our members and alumni have blogs out there on the internet, and they write about a lot of interesting things. So we gathered up all the CSHer blogs we could find and, with the power of Web 2.0, mashed them all together into one big blogorific mega-feed! Find out what real CSHers are doing with their lives, here on the CSH Blog Network.

Soekris net4501 Acquisition

Wesley Shields (atarininja.org) - August 14, 2009 - 7:35pm

Thanks Jordan!

I've been quiet because I bought a house. Things have been hectic, to say the least, with that and are only going to get more hectic as we prepare to move in and finally move in. I'm hoping that by the end of September I'll be settled in and can get back to doing more than just updating ports.  read more »

Bourbon Roadtrip

Matt Behrens (asktherelic.com) - August 9, 2009 - 7:00am

As the summer comes to a close, I have one more roadtrip planned. The main cause for this roadtrip is a gaming convention called Quakecon that is taking place in Dallas, TX next week, but I’m making a wide swing from New Orleans to Chicago, visiting a few friends and relatives along the way.  read more »

Munin doesn't scale by default.

Jordan Sissel (semicomplete.com) - August 7, 2009 - 1:50am
Just started playing with Munin as a potentially better option than Cacti (hard to automate) for trending. I have about 30 hosts being watched by munin. The munin update job (which fetches and regenerates graphs, etc), by default, runs every 5 minutes. It takes almost 4 minutes to run on a 2.5gHz host. OpenDNS breaks the internet.

Jordan Sissel (semicomplete.com) - July 29, 2009 - 2:34pm
All DNS servers should respond to invalid domains with advertisement space </sarcasm>, but OpenDNS takes it a step further, by responding to A record queries that aren't possibly valid: % dig +short @208.67.222.222 "When is no-pants-o-clock?" 208.67.219.132 % dig +short @208.67.222.222 "$(dd if=/dev/urandom bs=1 count=30 2> /dev/null)" 208.67.219.132 Good job.  read more »

LostAFollower Alpha Release

Robert Peaslee (robertpeaslee.com) - July 19, 2009 - 4:27pm
Managing relationships in social networks is difficult, just like managing real-world relationships is difficult. If someone unfriends you on Facebook, or stops following you on Twitter, is it because of something you posted? If a friend in real life stops talking to you, is it because of something you said?  read more »
