Traditions
Fall/Spring Camping
About twice a year, usually in the fall and spring, we plan a weekend wilderness adventure where we struggle to survive without electricity. Don't forget the bug spray!
Freshman Project
Each incoming freshman class is required to plan and host a charity event to show that they can work together and accomplish something on their own. Whether it's selling fresh donuts and hot apple cider to visiting families or holding a poker tournament, the freshmen usually raise a lot of money for a good cause and always have fun doing it.
Grad Party
At the end of every year, we hold a celebration to congratulate our graduating members. Each member receives an engraved mug filled with their favorite (non-alcoholic) beverage as the rest of us tell funny stories about them.
Holiday Dinner
Holiday Dinner is our annual formal dinner right before the Winter break, in which we all get dressed up and go out to eat at a classy restaurant. This is immediately followed by another traditional event: Secret Santa, in which many anonymous (and hilarious) gifts are exchanged.
Intramural Sports
We participate in most of the intramural sports RIT offers, including hockey, soccer, basketball, softball, dodgeball, and volleyball. While we aren't always the best team out there, we're always the best-looking (with our CSH jerseys) and have the most fans cheering us on! We've even won quite an impressive number of trophies in the past, which are proudly displayed in our library.
Karaoke Night
Every quarter we run the infamous Karaoke Night, an event with a simple premise: Pick your favorite song, grab the microphone, and belt it out! Don't worry, we're all terrible singers; that's part of what makes Karaoke Night so entertaining.
Netrek
On Friday nights throughout the year, we invade the Computer Science labs to play an old game called Netrek. In this online team-play game from the 80's, you control a ship flying through space, conquering planets and destroying your foes with a sophisticated array of weapons and countermeasures. Superior strategy and coordination will propel your team to victory!
Potter Parties
Andy Potter is a friendly local CSH advisor who often invites current members over to his house for food and fun. He is not only a master at the grill, but also makes delicious homemade brownies and liquid-nitrogen-style ice cream. Movie watching, card game playing, and various backyard sports are always on the agenda at Potter's parties.
Seminars
Seminars are presentations held by knowledgeable members to teach other members about a particular subject – anything from a programming language to a spoken language to how to bake an apple pie.
Welcome Back
Welcome Back is a barbecue held at the beginning of each year where we welcome the incoming freshman class. Traditionally, alumni come from far and wide to visit current floor members. We cook way too much food, tell stories, and participate in a variety of outdoor activities.
