SOLO 0.99 has been released

It's been two years since SOLO 0.97 was released, but although I never found enough time to put out a new version, that doesn't mean that it wasn't being worked on. Many new features have been added (including the ability to unzip gzip'ed files, ramdisk support, some minimal VESA video and framebuffer support, and Plan9/Brazil/Inferno boot capability), lots of bugs have been fixed (large hard drive and build problems, etc), and the code and build process have been refined a bit.

Read the release notes for more details about some of the changes.

I'm still finishing up the paper, but I'm just about done except for the conclusions. Now, this doesn't mean that I finished everything I set out to do. What it means is that I had to make a choice between my new startup company and my thesis, or risk deferring my thesis to the point that I lost my degree. So, I finished up DECO to the point where it was functional for the basic type-binding functionality described in the thesis, and I documented, rather than fixing, some of the remaining problems. Perhaps someday this will get revisited, but odds are that I'll be taking the experience and some of the code and carrying it forward to the development of a new language in the future, rather than continuing to try to make C++ work the way I'd like. Of course, all of this will have to wait until my startup is far enough along that I can actually have some free time. For those that don't know about the startup, see (Yes, I know it just has the logo right now--- more details will get released in the future when the time is right. Keep checking it monthly...)
