I am a sucker for puzzles of any type. I like to tell them to
others, and I like to solve them. Hence, we ought have a place for
puzzle swapping. And here it is.
I'd prefer keeping these puzzles away from the long, drawn-out
brainwracking ones you may have seen in Story Board. All puzzles,
brainteasers, mental excercises, riddles and the lot posted here
should not require excessive amounts of question and answer between the
puzzler and the puzzlee. They should be more of the sort that you can
sit around by yourself and work out until you get to an answer.
I have a great deal already I'd like to share, but anyone is
welcome to post. The only problem I've thought of so far is dealing
with the answers. I think that the best way to deal with that would be
to put the answer in the same post as the puzzle, separated with a form
feed. That way, wimpy people who don't want to think at all can
satisfy their curiosity right away, and those who wish to work on it
can do so until they get the answer or until their willpower runs out;
whichever comes first. This method should be easier than posting a few
days later or having to e-mail the person who posted the puzzle.
So that's that. On to the puzzling!

This one I just heard last night and have been itching to tell
someone. It's one of those you stew over for a good while, then
suddenly whack yourself in the head when you realize how simple the
answer is.
--There is a rancher who heads into town every two weeks to buy
supplies. The trip to town takes two days; as does the trip back. The
rancher leaves on Friday, but returns on the exact same Friday that he
left on. How is this possible?
--The man from the country at the top of the Himalayas came by
plane to meet the man from the Far East who was wearing a chair round
his neck. What was the weather when they met the man from the Middle
East?
ANSWERS:
1. Friday was his horse.
2. Rain is an anagram of Iran; plane an anagram of Nepal, and
chain an anagram of China.

Oh, this is a quick test to determine which you are - an optimist or a
pessimistic.
If you see a glass that has half of the liquid that it can hold, what
would you say - half-full or half-empty?

If you say half-empty, you might as well end your life because you're

well... RE: chicken vs. egg controversy...
supposing whatever laid the egg was a not-quite-chicken, but that egg
was that crucial cusp of evolutionary wonder... the egg hatches into
the first chicken, and all the other not-quite-chickens poked fun at it
because it was different... and the chicken was very hurt and felt very
alienated and isolated... so the chicken went on a pain-driven killing
spree and wiped out the entire race of existing not-quite-chickens
except it's mommy... and the evolutionary demigods decreed that for
such an unspeakable and unforgivable act of violence, the chicken was
forever cursed to be hunted by the dreaded Colonel from Kentucky, and
the dreaded Popeye, and he and his descendants shall be forever known as
Chicken Marsala and Spicy Barbecue Chicken... and the not-quite-chicken
that laid that fateful egg was so distraught with grief and misery that
she commited an ancient and sacred not-quite-chicken act similar to
hari-kari... and there you have it, the answer to that age old question
of what came first, the chicken or the egg.
... oh dear... look at the time, i've forgotten to take my medicine...

A man is in a boat with thirty two holes in it, and five bullet shells.
The man is found unconcious, and has been lying there for two days with
the only way out of the canal (which he is in) through a port where
they found the boat. No boats left the area in the past two days,
according to the log book of guards; how did the man's boat get 32
holes, five empty shells, no gun, and an unconcious man?

Okay, I saw a topic like this in Story_Board and wondered if anyone
here would be interested.
It is a little puzzle/game.
It works like this:
I will describe a situation and you ask me questions pertaining to the
situation and I'll give you the answer. The first person to come up
with the right answer gets to start the next one, if they want.
Ok, here it goes.
There is a man sitting down covering something while another man
squints at him.
Why?
Ps. This is not very hard.

Well Dank, I hate to piss on the proverbial parade but the point of
this topic was to stay away from puzzles like that. When we were running
them over in Story Board, they were confusing enough that each one
really needed it's own topic. I assumed that if those sorts of puzzles
were fair game here, they would mess up the continuity. i.e. people
coming out of the blue with questions and answers all the time. It
gets messy. So, is there any way to put this back, or is it going to
have to stay here.
From #1-
> I'd prefer keeping these puzzles away from the long, drawn-out

1) Transport the olive
The object is to transport the olive from the upside-down goblet to

glass. You're not allowed to tip the inverted glass over or move
the olive beyond the surface area of the table. How can the trick
be done?

"The Ballad of John and Yoko" doesn't really count as a Beatles song,
because John recorded it before Paul even heard it; it was Paul's idea
to record it for a Beatles song.

You're also a little off on "The Ballad of John and Yoko", which
was recorded by John and Paul without Ringo and George. Which makes it
every bit as much a Beatle Song as any other recorded in the last
couple of years. In fact, (and I could be wrong here) I believe the
drums on this song were done by Paul.
Well, like they say in the old country:
Nyah, nyah-nyah, nyah-nyah nyah!
