This isn't a box-office smash as such, but rather a lame movie I
happened upon in Photo House's lounge tonight. I think it was on Fox,
and it was called, "Just One of the Girls".
I only saw the last half of it, but I think I got the basic jist of
the movie. Corey Haim was afriad of some kid at his school, so he
(this is great!) he dresses up like a girl so this guy won't beat him
up. Good enough, right? Ok, so next the guy who's going to beat him
up falls for him, and starts sending him flowers, taking him out to
dinner. etc. His parents think he's gay, some guy he's afraid of wants
to jump him, and the girl he's after is his roomate at cheerleader
camp.
In the end of the movie, he gets up in front of the whole school,
and whips off his cheerleader costume and embarrasses the hell out of
himself. So the chick he was after slaps him; the guy who liked him is
still going to kill him, and the whole school thinks he's a
transvestite.
But it's ok; because he's the keyboard player for a really cool
band, and they play at some school event, so in the end everyone likes
him again and nobody wants to beat him up.
Did you get all that? Good. Definitely a must-see. Two snaps up.
Oh yea. They had RuPaul playing in the background at all the
commercial breaks.

JURASSIC PARK was not a great movie! Anybody who's read the book
can tell you what a horrible adaptation it was. And if you're like me,
and happened to read it before you saw the film, you'd a been
incredibly disappointed, as I was. The movie had about half the # of
dino's, decreased the roles or totally left out major characters, left
out the entire beginning and ending of the story, and didn't kill all
the people who were supposed to die! Lame indeed!
If you really wanna see an excellent film, though, check out "HARD
BOILED" by John Woo. Don't see it if you're offended by gratuitous
violence, though, as more innocent bystanders get killed in this film
as in your average action movie. Hong Kong film making at its best!

I did read Jurassic Park before I saw the movie. It was an
excellent book, as was the movie. It is virtually impossible to
reproduce any movie of film as it was written. You need to worry about
time constraints, toning it down for younger audiences, and such. You
have to admit, there are some things people can write that just can't
be put on film. And likewise, there are cinematic pieces that can't be
put in script.
You can't fairly compare a book to a movie without looking at the
whole picture.
But everyone's entitled to their opinion.

SQUICKED! HAHA!
I agree, Gabe. Jurrasic Park the book was great. The movie was
too. You have a realize that the book contained a HUGE amount of
detail and somewhat complicated material. To stuff that into a
2-2and-a-half hour movie would overwhelm an audience witha fray of
details that they couldn't keep up with. I think the movie was well
adapted.
The only changed I couldn't justify was Switching the kids' roles (
I can't figure out WHY they did this) and completely leaving out the PR
guy.

I read the book after the movie, and, in retrospect, couldn't figure
out what happened to Ian Malcolm. I mean, in the book he was the whole
key to the moral, but they just shoved him in a corner in the movie.
The movie was neat, but I liked the book better.

While on the subject; has anyone perchance read Rising Sun and seen
the movie? My father borrowed it from someone at work about three
years ago and I read it then.
I'd have to admit that the movie, despite the fact that it had my
man Sean Connery in it, didn't do much for me. The book was better.

I liked both the movie and book to Jurassic Park, but probably wouldn't
have if I expected the movie to be tlike the book. Why would I want
that? What I go to a movie when I have already seen it in my head. I
liked the changes, and it kept me off balance because I did not know
what to expect.
Rising Sun on the other hand, is not a movie you could go to see if you
want . . . anything.
Except if you voyeristic and like watching the same sex seen over and
over and over and over again. And of course, the other gratuitous
nakedness they had for no reason whatsoever (other than to keep the
audience in their seats instead of getting up and walking right out).
It doesn't keep the viewer informed enough, even for a mystery.
Although, it is a good plug for the book, because if you were
interested in what happened and wanted to find out what the hell was
going on, you'd have to read the book.
Suggestion : read the book, rent a porno.

I both read and saw Jurassic Park. Both were great in their own right.
I read up on the movie enough to know that they would have LOVED to
throw in the rest of the dinosaurs, but they were ALREADY over budget
as it was, and that new technology they used was _really_ expensive.
Sigh.
(Oh, and the kid's roles were changed a bit because they wanted the
women to have a bit more of a role in the movie than they did in the
book... which I don't mind. Nice to see a girl save something for a
change... :) )
