Hacks > CJB.net DNS Client

About the cjbnet client:

The cjbnet client is a client for the cjb.net redirection/dynamic DNS service. The service can be found at http://www.cjb.net. The client runs as a system daemon, periodically checking for a change in the computer's IP address. When a change is detected, it automatically sends the updated information to the cjb.net server.

The purpose in writing this (along with the miniDNS daemon) is to provide a small and fast client for using these dynamic DNS services. I have not yet seen an update client for the cjb.net service that can run as daemon. This (and the miniDNS client) keeps this site (http://www.uselink.net or http://gile.cjb.net) alive.

This program is for Unix (and Unix-ish) systems only. It could probably be ported to other systems, but I don't use any others, so I wouldn't know.

Installing cjbnet:

Unpack the cjbnet archive ('zcat cjb-client-1.2.tar.gz | tar -xf -'). Then read and follow the instructions in the README file. For the impatient, try 'make; make install'. Please don't ask questions about it not starting without reading the README.
