The Spirit of Napster Lives on

Despite Napster being dead, the spirit of Napster lives on. Shawn Fanning’s idea was simple, as everything that’s good is. He just wanted a way to download music without having to go through a website, it was that simple. The programming, which looks like jargon to someone who doesn’t know it, was actually pretty simple programming at first. Albeit the program has gone through many changes in the programming since its initial release, the core of the programming has remained virtually the same, simple. Because of the programming being pretty simple, many copycat programs came out shortly before and after the demise of Napster, and the list is growing. These programs are the next generation P2P file sharing programs. These programs are all built upon the technology that Napster brought to the masses, but they do much more than download music now. Programs like Kazaa and Grokster are among the most popular and with them you can download almost anything: Movies, Music, Games, Applications, Software, Text, and essays. You name it, they’ve got it. According to AfterNapster.com there are 32 file sharing programs out right now. (Music After Napster, AfterNapster.com, ND)
